Abstract:

Introduction: Amongst all the joints of the human body knee joint is a variant of hinge joint which is commonly affected in the middle to old age people and frequently injured joint also. Amongst all the common injuries of the knee joint meniscal tear is the commonest one. As a reported incidence almost 0.61-0.70 per 1000 persons in a year are treated for same of the above injury as mentioned in the research studies of orthopaedic surgery. Individualised homoeopathic treatment depending on pathological cause which was introduced later after confirming from the M.R.I report could help the patient from avoiding the orthopaedic surgery and also the consequential hazards of the surgery increasing the subjective well-being of the person.
Case Summary: A 60-year-oldfemale patient diagnosed with the help of M.R.I. having meniscal root avulsion of the medial meniscus treated with individualised homeopathic medicine Ruta graveolens in increasing potency resulting to reduction of both subjective and objective symptoms. Patient’s improvement has been recorded clinically, objectively and also evidence-based record which includes orthopaedic tests, M.R.I, both MONARCH and HCRAS score and scale respectively. MONARCH SCORE is 9 and HCRAS SCALE is >30 respectively and for pain assessment Visual Analogue Score has been also used which shows positive improvement due to individualised holistic approach. To draw a firm conclusion about the classical homoeopathic treatment further research has to be done in depth to know the action of the particular drug on this type of reversible surgical tear cases.
Conclusion: It was a challenging case to be treated with homoeopathy but further research studies are required to confirm the result.
