Sjogren’s Syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disorder characterised by lymphocytic infiltration of the exocrine glands, leading to dryness of eyes and mouth. The condition predominantly affects women and is often associated with other autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis or lupus. Conventional treatment provides only symptomatic relief through artificial tears, lubricants, and immunosuppressants, but does not address the underlying dysregulation of immunity.
This case study presents a 28-year-old female diagnosed with Sjogren’s Syndrome with positive ANA and ENA (Ro52, nRNP/Sm) tests. The patient experienced extreme dryness of eyes, throat, and skin, along with bloating, anxiety, and emotional distress following love disappointment. She also had a background of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
Individualised homoeopathic management based on totality and constitution resulted in gradual improvement in dryness, emotional balance, and overall wellbeing. Natrum muriaticum was prescribed as the constitutional remedy, supported by Bryonia alba, Petroleum, and Mezereum for local complaints. Over eight months, significant amelioration in dryness, improved energy levels, and normalisation of ANA/ENA reports were observed.
This paper highlights the scope of homoeopathy in autoimmune conditions by addressing the psycho-neuro-immunological axis through holistic constitutional treatment.
