Abstract:

Background: High blood pressure is a major cause of death and disability and a univariate risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). According to research, leading a healthy lifestyle improves health outcomes and decreases blood pressure. The main goals of this investigation are to ascertain the efficacy of a program for modifying one’s lifestyle to lower high blood pressure in rural areas of Bangladesh.

Methods: This was a Randomized controlled trial (RCT). This study’s duration was 10 months experiment included 240 participants. The participant age limit was 25 to 70 years, and 120 in each intervention and control group. The survey area encompassed the Gazipur district of Dhaka, as well as the union sub-centre Kapasia, Kaligonj & Arshadnagor Slum area in Tongi Gazipur.

Results: A mixed program would teach lifestyle modifications for high blood pressure. Using visuals, data sheets, and published research, the evidence-based education program promotes a balanced diet for blood pressure management, CVD risk, and physical exercise. At baseline data collection, the control group gets generic instructions and pamphlets; the hospital's key outcome is systolic-diastolic blood pressure differential.

Qualitative data reveals the percentage of individuals initiating regular exercise, quitting smoking, and reducing salt intake, along with evidence on health literacy and the obstacles also enablers associated with behaviour changes. This will display the intervention's variation with the mean blood pressure difference between the intervention and control groups.

Conclusion: The research examined how lifestyle and exercise impact high blood pressure management. This research also gathered community data on the effects of lifestyle modification on blood pressure in urban and rural low- and middle-income people with chronic conditions.
